I Have Returned!

Hi friend(s)! I am back in the good ol’ U S of A. While my five weeks of travel in Europe—which took me to Dublin, Madrid, Sevilla, Cadiz, Barcelona, Athens, Naxos, Santorini, Crete, Milan, La Spezia, Cinque Terre, Florence, and Rome—were lovely and wonderful and all that I hoped they could be, I am oh so glad to be home. My travel companions and I made a list of Things We Take For Granted in the United States that we missed while abroad, which strangely seemed to center around food. Among the entries,

  • free refills
  • free water (and bread, though that is of less importance) in restaurants
  • toilet seats in every bathroom
  • toilet seat covers
  • food sources that are open 24 hours a day
  • drip coffee with milk
  • markets that sell more than one brand per type of product
  • being able to communicate comfortably and easily with people

Of course, there was a companion Things I Wish We Had in the US list (which includes, most notably, menu prices that include service and tax in their round-number values, which makes splitting checks much easier), but, alas, the Take For Granted list was quite a bit longer.

In any case, all this is a way of saying I am back, and so this blog shall be back in business, too. Since I graduated from college this past May and will be taking this year off school to work part-time and apply to graduate school, I will (hopefully!) be posting more frequently. Huzzah!

Tomorrow I fly to Dublin to begin a five-week trek through Europe, specifically Ireland, Spain, Greece, and Italy. As such, I will most likely cease posting here until I return at the end of July… not like this will be much of a departure from my typical posting patterns, but whatever. At least this time I have an excuse!
